Never love the company, unless it’s VEED

Oi oi oi I know you miss me.
I haven’t written in a while and I still don’t like publishing those notes.
So enjoy, it’s a good one this one.

Nobody at VEED paid me to write this, they pay me for being myself.
And don’t be skeptical too early for that now.

Plus everything is fair in love and war

This is not war.

This is not the story of VEED, if you want that check out the different stories here.

VEED is a fully bootstrapped in-browser video editor (it’s more than just that as I’m writing ) born from not only the neurons of Tim and Sabba but also with a touch of their souls.
Too cheesy ?
TLDR they are crazy and they know it which brings them to the self-aware crazy.
Most people at VEED are crazy one way or another and I can finally say I kinda found a place where my crazy is appreciated.
(How cool are we huh? calling the CEO and CTO crazy, without being scared 😎 )

it’s been a year or so since I joined and I still have this paradoxical time thing that I have never gotten to understand. It feels like yesterday but also like 10 years ago.

(I know I know I should write more right ?)

Well, it just feels like yesterday coz time flies by and covid shitty stuff and all.
Now the 10 years ago feeling is coming from the people I work with who are(again) crazy and they feel like close friends even though I never met them in my life.
(Not even sure they exist IRL)

The awesome thing about VEED is that it doesn’t feel like working.
When I first joined I was told to pick whatever task I love to work on.

Ever heard about “Everything will fall into its right place” well at VEED you’re free to work whenever you want, manage your time however you like as long as you deliver, as long as you’re enjoying.

A few days later, I was like what kind of sorcery is this?

Then I had a call with one of the crazy co-founders Sabba ( I know I know, you think I can get away with calling him crazy once but twice is at the edge of being fired right? I’m willing to lose my job to tell a good story here XD )
I only had one point that amazed me and I couldn't grasp it :
How do you guarantee that everyone is working, and doing their jobs, without strict policy, without strict rules with this open-minded culture?

I worked before in remote jobs where you had to sign in at a very specific time and the daily call was at 6 pm so they know you didn’t sign off early. (If you’re reading this “previous company ” you really suck 🙊 🙊 🙊)

Sabba’s answer was simple “ if you have the VEED energy if you’re a good culture fit you will stay on board and if you’re on board you will do magic.”

And that was it! (not the article, but what he said)

This is why I haven’t been writing much lately, yeah doing magic.

Now, this is not a technical article but one more crazy thing is that before joining VEED, I thought I’m good at what I do.

Then I saw the code base and I felt like I had never written code in my life. Imagine you’re a young Harry Potter and you meet Dumbledore for the first time. Well, that’s how I felt meeting the engineering team, a bunch of Dumbledores.

The core value of VEED is that there is no ego between people, we all put in the work and help each other out not only at work but also in life stuff.
Always on constant learning from each other and you get to mess things up every now and then and it’s ok.

We have different kinds of people with a variety of different interests :

  • Travelers, hopping from one place to another
  • Pet lovers
  • Poets
  • People who I have serious doubt that they sleep at night
  • People with guns (am I kidding 🙊)
  • The tallest developer in the world
  • Pharmacist
  • Crypto and NFT enthusiasts
  • Movies, TV shows, Books
  • Sleep lovers

You name it! And it’s not restricted only to engineers, we all fit together in one huge awesome mosaic, from customer support, growth, engineers, and marketing
We literally are almost from every continent, in fact, we have a scheme to take over planet earth in a very creative way. We’re just looking for someone from the north pole to join so we cool down a bit coz we’re so super hot.

When you join VEED, you’re not getting a new job.
You’re joining a family business as a family member.
And family is always there for each other right?
VEED is great at taking care of its people and not only $$$ wise
I will leave this quotes from inside conversations we had :

“I can tell you blindly if any other company offers to double or even triple or x10 my salary I will refuse happily, what we have here is so rare and precious ”

“Getting paid more is the easy part but finding the right environment is hard.”

Feels like a perfect world?

Well, it is in some sort of way, not all days are pink but even the pain is enjoyable when you’re taming a unicorn. ( 🦄 you heard that right 🦄)

Now before you inflate my ego while holding that like button if you’re looking for a new opportunity feel free to reach out whether you’re an engineer, product manager, Youtuber, designer, or if you’re just crazy wanting a space to unleash your ideas in.

Feel free to tweet to :

@sabba CEO
@sam Head of Product
@me ( only if you’re shy, but don’t be )
